La fixation est l’incorporation de l’œuvre sur un support matériel, afin de permettre sa communication au public. 

En droit anglais, il s’agit d’une condition nécessaire à la protection par le copyright (« Copyright does not subsist in a literary, dramatic or musical work unless and until it is recorded, in writing or otherwise. » / « Il n’y a pas de droit d’auteur à moins que, et jusqu’à ce que, l’oeuvre soit fixée, par écrit ou autrement. » s.3(2) CDPA 1988). L’œuvre peut être fixée sur un support par l’auteur ou toute autre personne.
